The Penguins confirmed the forward's Sewickley Heights house was targeted by burglars on Saturday, Jan. 11, WPXI reported. On that day, the NHL team lost 5-0 at home to the Ottawa Senators in a game Malkin missed due to an upper-body injury.

The Penguins released a brief statement about the burglary.

"Penguins forward Evgeni Malkin's home was burglarized this past weekend," a team spokesperson said. "Details of the situation will not be made public as this is an ongoing investigation. We are working closely with local authorities and team security. Malkin has requested that his privacy be respected during this time and we will have no further comment on the matter."

Malkin, 38, did confirm the burglary to The Athletic, saying that his three Stanley Cup rings were missing. The Russian-born star won championships with the Pens in 2009, 2016, and 2017.

According to Pittsburgh's Action News 4, Allegheny County police confirmed they were requested to investigate a burglary in Sewickley Heights. They didn't name Malkin due to their policy of not publicly identifying victims.

This incident follows a string of high-profile burglaries, prompting the FBI to send out a warning about organized crime targeting professional athletes. NFL stars Patrick Mahomes, Travis Kelce, and Joe Burrow, have been victims of thieves, along with NBA and NHL players like Luka Doncic and Tyler Seguin.

The Penguins had back-to-back home games over the weekend. Malkin also missed Pittsburgh's 5-2 loss to the Tampa Bay Lightning on Sunday, Jan. 12.

Malkin returned from his injury on Tuesday, Jan. 14, tallying an assist in the Pens' 4-2 loss at the Seattle Kraken.
